A Letter From Tara Hall

I am humbled and grateful to address you as the Executive Director of the Just a Friend Foundation, a cause that holds a special place in my heart. Founded in memory of my beloved late husband, Biz Markie, this foundation is dedicated to empowering foster youth and breaking down barriers. Today, I am thrilled to announce the launch of our transformative campaign, "Breaking the Stigma: Empowering Foster Youth."

Biz Markie, renowned for his musical genius, had a personal journey that is often overlooked. He was a foster child who experienced firsthand the power of resilience, the strength of community, and the transformative impact of education. With our campaign, we strive to dismantle the stereotypes surrounding foster youth, create a supportive environment, and empower them to thrive.

Through the power of social media, we will shed light on the incredible journeys of foster children. Each week, we will share inspiring stories, recognize the unsung heroes who champion foster care, and celebrate the remarkable achievements of these resilient individuals. Together, we will create a ripple effect of change, one post at a time.

But our campaign extends beyond the digital realm. I am delighted to announce that we will be hosting a Back-to-School Drive, where we will provide foster children with essential school supplies and the tools they need to excel academically. This is an opportunity for our community to come together, show our support, and make a tangible difference in the lives of these children.

Moreover, there will be numerous other avenues through which you can support our cause. From mentorship programs and scholarships to volunteering and fundraising events, we invite you to actively engage in our efforts to empower foster youth. Your involvement will help break down barriers and provide these deserving children with the opportunities they need to thrive.

This campaign represents more than just a series of online posts; it is a movement driven by compassion, empathy, and an unwavering determination to effect change. Our vision is to create a world where foster children are recognized for their unique potential, where their dreams are nurtured, and where they are equipped with the tools for academic, emotional, and social success.

However, we cannot accomplish this alone. We need your support, your active participation, and your steadfast belief in the power of community. Join us in this noble cause by sharing your own stories, offering encouragement and guidance, and advocating for improved opportunities for foster youth. Together, we can dismantle the stigma surrounding foster care and foster a society that embraces, uplifts, and empowers every child.

To all those who have chosen to stand with us on this journey, I extend my deepest gratitude. Your support will leave an indelible mark on the lives of foster children, igniting hope and paving the way for a brighter future. Let us be the change that Biz Markie himself would have wanted to see in the world.

Thank you for being a friend, for your unwavering support, and for joining us in our mission to create a world where foster youth are seen, heard, and embraced with open arms.

With heartfelt appreciation,

Tara Hall

Executive Director, Just a Friend Foundation
